Identity, Sexuality, Change and Loss
I have a wealth of personal experience to draw on as I have overcome huge difficulties in my early life with the help of counselling; learning to become more at ease with myself, building inner self-confidence, raising two children and living a happier and more fulfilling life.
As a caring and resilient person-centred counsellor, my aim is to enable you to explore and deal with any issues that you bring and to discover any changes that you want to make. I can offer you empathic listening, within a non-judgemental, safe space. Through developing a therapeutic relationship we can create an opportunity for you to explore your thoughts and feelings in order to allow you to process whatever is causing you discomfort, unhappiness or misery, and start to experience greater self-awareness and acceptance; beginning to grow and develop inner confidence.
You can feel confident that you will receive a confidential, professional, reliable, welcoming and friendly service. I have counselled adults of different ages with a wide range of issues including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, lack of confidence, addiction and relationship issues. I like to work creatively and would encourage you to explore different ways of relating and expressing yourself. I encourage the use of mindfulness and other positive wellbeing practices.
I particularly welcome anyone who identifies as LGBTQ+ as I have personal experience and a background in supporting the LGBTQ+ community. I have an understanding of many of the specific issues and conflicts that these areas of diversity can bring. I am accepting and non-judgmental, believing that everyone has their own path.
I have many years of experience working with young adults in the education sector and have supported 18-25-year-olds in different educational environments for a number of years; working for a couple of years as a Learning Mentor in a special needs department at a local college.
I have also had experience and specialist training in loss and bereavement support and have worked with the elderly and housebound. Loss can come in many forms; from the death of a loved one to the loss of health, fitness, career, lifestyle, financial security, a home, friendship, mobility or even a beloved pet.
Being a qualified member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists I work to the BACP’s Ethical Framework which means that I am accountable and will provide a safe and confidential service.
