& Integrative Therapist

Abuse, Disability & Wellbeing

I’m Melanie,  an experienced, qualified Humanistic Counsellor and Integrative therapist.

My service includes counselling and mentoring, online via teams/zoom, telephone sessions, or face to face (depending on the location).

I can help with  a range of issues including; Anxiety, Abuse, Depression, Redundancy, Relationships, Self-esteem, Sex-related issues, Stress, Women’s issues, and Work Related Stress.

It can be reassuring to know if we feel we can work well together, which is why, I always offer a free no-obligation, 25-minute initial conversation. This can be either by telephone or zoom.

A bit about Me

“I know from personal experience how disability can impact self esteem, our confidence in ourselves, our working life, and our general wellbeing”.

Although I now see having dyslexia as a strength in some ways (particularly my enhanced level of empathy), when I was younger, I didn’t hold the same view, and it did knock my confidence. When I left school I went into hairdressing, where my interpersonal skills were developed, but I always knew I had another calling, which was recognised by countless clients who said to me that I would make a great counsellor.

The rest is history, after completing the three years of training it takes to become a counsellor, my only regret was not starting sooner. Through my ongoing dedicated practice and personal experience, I deeply understand many issues people go through. I have been with my clients, through their own personal journeys, and seen for myself that counselling and mentoring, really helps people make changes in their lives. I feel very honoured to be able to offer such a valuable service helping people, who for whatever reason are facing difficulties in their life!

Professional qualifications and experience

  • Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB); which includes training to deliver counselling online as well as in-person.

Additional qualifications & workshops:

  • Resilient Heart, Trauma sensitive Heart Math training Course

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • The Freedom Project – Domestic Violence Workshop

In my work with counselling clients, I have seen how talking therapy can help us to find a way forward with more confidence. I offer an understanding, and sometimes challenging ear to help clients find their own way along life’s winding path. I won’t have all the answers but will help you to find them for yourself. No one knows you better than you do yourself, but I believe that sometimes our self-knowledge gets lost in life’s busyness.

This is my third career. I started working in insurance, and after having my children, I trained as a teacher. I enjoy helping look after my grandchildren in my free time and also spend time keeping the weeds out of my garden.

As an introduction, I offer a 20-minute session (not charged) when we can start to get to know each other and discuss the practicalities. Later sessions are 50 minutes, and preferably at the same time each week, although I can cater for shift patterns. I work on Zoom or the telephone.
